Association of Roma women "Better Future" Tuzla in cooperation with Roma Women's Network "Success" and in partnership with CARE International Blakans as part the 16 days of activism against violence against women in Bosnia and Herzegovina is launching a campaign to raise public awareness about the importance of gender-based violence.
The 16 Days Campaign is used as an organizational strategy around the world by individuals and groups, as a call for the elimination of all forms of violence against women and girls. The campaign begins on November 25, the International Day Against Violence Against Women, and ends on 10 December, the International Human Rights Day.
Even more disheartening data that one out of five adult women, during their lifetimes, at least one is a victim of physical violence, while one out of ten women is a victim of sexual violence.
Data from the new study titled "Prevalence and characteristics of violence against women in Bosnia and Herzegovina" showed that psychological violence the most widespread, with an overall prevalence rate of 42%, while it's followed by physical violence by 24%.
Sexual violence experienced during adult life 6% of women. This research was determined by the fact that the most widespread violence against women carried out by their current or former partners, because they are the perpetrators in 72% of cases. Young women are more exposed to violence than older, but violence not spared neither women with disabilities as well as women in poor health.
